Holmes x2 by MyDearWatson Holmes x2 by MyDearWatson
EDIT: GAH! BY THE WAY, MERRY CHRISTMAS, GOD BLESS, MY CHRISTMAS PIC SHOULD BE UP ON OR THE DAY AFTER CHRISTMAS OR SUMTHIN.

Remarkably similar to my Watsonian St. Patrick's Day comic, a new comic from me!

It's... well... I think it needs some explaination, probably.

...

[link]

Sherlock Holmes...?

Robert Downey Jr.?

I say NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Please NOOOO! :iconsadplz:

Ah, well, whatev.

The real Holmes and Watson aren't too bothered.

They don't believe him, though.

*gigglefest ensues*

(I'd recommend you imagine H and W's laughs similar to Jeremy Brett and David Burke's in The Red-Headed League. Yes, you know of what I speak. If not... um, go watch the Granada Sherlock Holmes series. NOW.)

Everybody is taller than Watson. *sigh* It's a hard life. I should know. *high fives him* He's like... Ringo, but cooler. (Sorry, Ringo. It's true. I'm warning you with Peace and Love.)

Disclaimer: Don't own Robert Downey Jr., the new Holmes movie (too bad, otherwise it might be more canony), Granada, Jeremy Brett, David Burke, the Red-Headed League, or... um... Jeremy's Holmes!Laugh (tm). :(

Yeah, I have a friend in 'real life' who doesn't like him too. Personally, I think he really plays it as 'Holmes, just lept off the pages of the books', but that's also just a personal preference! :D Who do you prefer in role?

I like Downey, but I almost like Livanov better (from the Russian series, it's on youtube, if you want to have a look, oh, and don't forget Vitaly Solomin, he's the cutest Watson ever).

What it all comes down to is that a movie is always someone else's vision, not your own. So there's no perfect movie, but I really like all the different versions of "book" Holmes that you get to see here on DA.

Mmhmm, RDJ did a very good job. Oh! I love Vasily Livanov! He's so... Holmesish! :D And yes, Vitaly Solomin is so grumpy looking sometimes, it's so cute. :3 I haven't seen all of those (last I checked, I'd seen all they had on Youtube, but I haven't checked lately) but what I've seen, they're splendid.

That's an extremely good point, and one I've been thinking about a lot, particularly, in a sort of unrelated note, when it comes to versions of Hamlet. I love a lot of versions, but there's always something missing, a lot like with Sherlock Holmes adaptations. Yeah, I love seeing the many varied versions of Holmes on here, people are so creative. (Also, it's great how different the many Watsons are, as he's never described beyond having a mustache in canon.)

LOL I agree! :D It wasn't a bad movie, but so different from canon (yeah, so they had a couple of lines from the books, so what). This movie for me, is like an AU version of the real Holmes I know and love. They took all the characters and sortof stwisted them, to a point where you can't believe you're actually watching a movie about SHERLOCK HOLMES :D

Right, I completely agree. XD Seriously, I went with the mindset that this was some sort of distant cousin of Holmes's with the same name that likes to pretend he's Holmes. :D

Yeah, and he also likes to immitate British accent. :D
You know, when I first saw this movie in a theatre, I didn't know anything about the Holmes universe (well only the stuff EVERYBODY knows, like he's a detective and he has this friend/sidekick called Watson, and they live in Baker street in London) :D
I have to say - this movie inspired me to get to know the REAL Holmes, so I dug out the books, and downloaded and watched the Russian series, since they said it was true to the canon.
After that, I went to watch the movie AGAIN, but this time, I found it considerably less interesting than the first time I watched it.. (And my mom didn't like it right away) :D :D :D
Am I talking too much?

Hahaha, yes. At least his accent isn't cringe-worthy...
Well, that's good, you know, because it gives us Holmesians hopes. I know a lot of the more experienced fans (I've only been a fan for about as long as I've been a deviant (okay that sounds really wrong XD)) were absolutely dreading the idea of all these new fanbrats coming in and saying 'Holmes isn't hot in your picture! I hate you! Spam spam spam' or just being generally annoying, which is mean, but that's how the world works and now I'm digressing. So it's good to hear that the movie (I actually really like the movie, as a separate and AU being as you mentioned before) spawned some new fans like you who want to know the roots. :D
I really love the Russian version, but Granada is my personal favorite and at least the early serieses (Adventures and Return) are almost perfectly canon except for the whole 'Watson isn't married' deal. Jeremy Brett was very picky when it came to canonocity yay I made up a word.
Seriously? If you're talking too much, than what am I doing? XD

Yeah, his accent was pretty good, actually. I'm glad he didn't just talk with an American accent - that would have made the movie even MORE AU, if that's possible! :D (apparently, it is) (Hey, do you think they will get Holmes and Irene together in the sequel? :D Yay for noncanonocity (I rendered your made-up word)!
I've been a Holmes fan for maybe two months (ever since I saw the movie, and I already saw more than half of the Granada series too (which I LOVE, I must say), and almost all Russian series, except the two last eps, where Sherlock retires (the thought makes me sad somehow)...
Oh and I couldn't bear to watch "Sign of Four" of the Granada series, and seeing that ummm, romantic tension coming from Watson, it was kinda awkward (plus they didn't get married anyway...).

Yeah. HAHA, yeah that would have been weiiird.
(Oh goodness gracious me, I dearly hope not. *shudders* If there's one thing I can't stand, it's Holmes as a sexual being of any kind. He may not be the automaton that Watson described, but sex seems so alien to me in assocation with the character... *cringe* But wish what you must, even if it kills me a little inside. XD)
That's great. The Granada series is my comfort food, seriously. Ever have a bad day? Nervous for the next? Something troubling you? Go watch JB being awesome with the adorable either David Burke or Edward Hardwicke in tow! JOY! XD
Seriously, you have no idea how depressing Sussex and bees are to me. D: Why? (Wickerman flashbacks: Not the bees! NOT THE BEES!)
AHAHA, yeah, I know, how awkward IS THAT? XDDDD

Holmes is passionate of course - during cases (where he can live on passion\thinking (?) alone, without food or sleep), but in no way sexually. So it's wrong all the way.
Heh, you sound like a commercial about Granada series :D :D
Hey, I just saw "The Devil's Foot", where Holmes burried his drugs in the sand. I think they left out a lot of things, like what pushed him to it, and a lot more... But I found an AWESOME fic about it, and it filled all empty spaces! (Honestly, SH fics are mostly awesome! Even a couple of slashy ones, but I don't take them seriously, I actually enjoyed only ONE).

You're absolutely correct.
HAHA, I rather do, don't I? I just completely love that show, though, can't help it. XD
Yeah, true, but I do like that Jeremy Brett decided to take that step at all, I mean, canon Holmes doesn't. It's for the children!
Oh, yes, I do indeed enjoy well-written Holmesian fic, which there is a lot of, thankfully, as it is a rather small fan-base... I just realized I can't really say that anymore. :O
Yeah, slash frightens me a smidge. Holmes? Watson? NOOOoooo... my soul is dead... XD Seriously, though I don't doubt there are some well written slashfics, I just avoid them because it's not my thing. I mean, I avoid ALL romantic Holmes fic, so that tells you something too, I guess. :D

Well, I love RDJ- I mean he is a bloody brilliant actor!- and I think that if he looked a little bit more like Holmes, the movie would sit with me better... although him being a midget compared to everyone else was freaken hilarious- whereas not accurate AT ALL, and I was actually surprised that they had quite a bit of canon in it despite it being a typical hollywood crashfest full of wild punches and stupid women who SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN THERE.
Irene? They brought her back because it's hollywood, and hollywood loves the stereotypical, heterosexual sexual tension and can't just leave be the fact that maybe- JUST MAYBE- Holmes doesn't like women. (and excuse me for saying but I don't think Holmes and Watson were just good friends :D)

Oh wow, look at all that writing! I need to work on my self control lol but Irene REALLY bugged me :/...

Oh- and Adrian Brody??? Hellz ya!!! He totally would have made such a good Holmes! Too bad he wasn't picked for the role, he would've done a much better job than RDJ if only for his more Holmesian looks :D

Same here! ;) Yeah, he was a great Holmes, but HAHAHA he is so short... <3 <3 <3 Not too good for Holmes, but I'm short too, so, But the scene where he was walking through the jail... hahaha... Oh, yeah, there was quite a bit of canon refs, which was awesome! :D
OhyeahIknowugh. Right, I think that to a modern audience, the relationship between Holmes and Watson can be seen as borderline homosexual, so they had to add a heterosexual love for Holmes. I don't think modern audiences can understand asexuality in a man, or a strong friendship without the need for love of a lustful, physical type... But hey, you can think what you want! :D With me, Holmes will always be asexual, and Watson very straight. XD

Haha, don't worry about it, I'm the same way.

I know, right? XD

Well I wouldn't say I'm a W/H shipper but I'd like to think that Watson has a bit too much love for the man and that Homes is much too asexual and full of himself that he just doesn't seem to notice... then again I can't say I like the attention tat is brought about by the online network... also I'd say that what REALLY started the H/W thing was Jeremy Brett and Edward Hardwicke cos they had so much chemistry on camera. But all in all I can't really find anything sexual about the relationship in the books besides the random appearances of Holmes at Watson's bedside :D lol even then, strong relationships were normal of that time. It's modern society that doesn't understand true friendship! I myself prefer a close circle of friends and hate the contrived student body that collects within our towns and cities! We should teach them a lesson :D

Yes, RDJ is decidedly not my Holmes. He's a great actor, but I just wasn't feeling it. It was more like he was going to a costume party dressed as Holmes. And forgot to shave before he left.

Downey definitely doesn't look anything like Holmes. xD Any parts where Holmes was sitting beside Watson in the movie made me laugh on the inside . . . I've been insisting to dozens of people that Holmes is taller and quite different looking, but hey, I still thought Downey did a pretty darn good job (especially considering that he doesn't have the physique for the character.) Sort of like an alternate-dimension Holmes is what I decided the movie made me think of.

Irene really didn't need to be there, though . . . I blame Hollywood . . .

Oh. Oh. I just had to add: Hugh Laurie should have been Holmes.

Because he already almost plays him, and . . .

He's actually BRITISH . . .

And he actually LOOKS LIKE HOLMES.

Ahem.

Hehe! This made me giggle! XD I LOVE RDJ, but seriously, my soul was kinda hurt when I found out Adrien Brody wasn't gonna play the new Holmes. He is my dream Holmes, at least. *sighs* I just hope people won't label RDJ the REAL Sherlock Holmes or the best, even though I have faith in his portrayal of the character. God help me if this is gonna be like Sweeney Todd all over again. God dammit that pissed me off. I love Burton a great deal, but that was fucking overkill to have Johnny play Sweeney, especially with the Jack Sparrow voice. No...just...no....

:D I'm glad. Yeah... ooh, Adrien Brody would be a good Holmes, never thought of that. :D Oh... yeah... I agree. Haha, I didn't dig Depp's choice of voice much either. As much as I love Johnny, his acting decisions in that movie were wrong, but I have a bigger beef with what Tim Burton cut from it than anything else... :/ Leave my Sweeney intact!

OMG A true Sweeney Fan! You may possibly become my new BFF! xD I swear, saying anything bad about Johnny Depp nowadays is worse than any racial slurr could be. I mean, I'm not saying he's not talented, but Tim seriously needs to stop using him in his movies. This is getting ridiculous. I honestly was really hoping for RDJ to play Sweeney...he may not be by ideal Sherlock, but he would totally kick ass as Sweeney Todd! And I get what you mean about Tim cutting things out from the movie. I CANNOT believe that he cut out the beginning ballad. That was unbelievably disappointing. And now he's given Johnny a starring role...YET AGAIN in this new Alice in Wonderland movie. Alice in Wonderland is extremely sacred to me....and seriously...I cried when I found out Johnny got the role of the Mad Hatter. WHAT THE HELL?! He already played a psycho in an over-sized top hat in one of Burton's movies! Nooooooo! *sobs* lmao

XD Heehee. Yeah, that's pretty much true... haha, yeah, he does overuse him! He also overuses Helena Bohnam Carter, but since that's his wife, it's understandable. Yeah, the Ballad was a great loss. I even had this idea for how they could have had it in the movie. You know that bit where they swoop the camera, superfast to Fleet Street? They could do something like that and stop abruptly at a person who maybe looks at the camera and sings a bit, then some more swooping and another person... like that. I was bummed at how they cut 'Look at Me, Miss' and 'Kiss Me'. Kind of lessened the love between Joanna and Anthony that way. Oh, yeah, Alice... I will admit I'm excited about that since it's not the original story... but that is a good point. I dearly hope he doesn't do his 'Willy Wonka' as the Mad Hatter, because that would be depressing. :/

Argh, arg, argh. The whole thing is one great disaster.

I have no problem with a person taking a character and using them in fanfiction, as long as they remain IC. But if you're going to make a movie, either do the original perfectly or something new that seems close to the original. I'd rather a person use their own characters if they're going to make them entirely different.......
